Sustainable Initiatives at Lyndarum North.
Conservation reserves.
Lyndarum North boasts two conservation reserves totalling 7.3 hectares. These reserves are crucial for preserving local biodiversity, providing habitats for native flora and fauna, and offering residents beautiful natural spaces for recreation and relaxation.
Recycled water.
Every lot in Lyndarum North has access to recycled water. This sustainable water management practice helps conserve precious drinking water supplies by providing an alternative for gardening, irrigation and other non-potable uses.
Tree retention and re-planting.
Our community has been planned and designed to preserve the natural environment where possible, and deliver new green spaces.
Street trees: On average, 50 street trees are planted in each of our stages, which will amount to approximately 1,600 trees upon the completion of our community.
River red gums: We have and will continue to retain River Red Gums in an effort to preserve the natural heritage. We anticipate we will have retained 160 River Red Gums upon completion.
Additional trees: We have planted a number of trees within our community’s parks and reserves.
Reduction of construction waste.
We actively seek to reduce our construction waste:
Soil repurposing: Existing soil removed for civil construction is repurposed for nature strips and residential lots, reducing the need for new soil and minimising waste.
Rock recycling: Inground rocks extracted during construction are transported to rock crushing plants where they are recycled and reused, preventing unnecessary landfill and promoting the efficient use of natural resources.
Supporting environmentally conscious organisations.
As part of our Community Grants Program, we support local organisations, like Lalor Landcare, who are committed to maintaining the natural environment. The group is actively involved in the environmental rehabilitation of Edgars Creek from Thomastown to Wollert. We also collaborated with Lalor Landcare in October 2023 to provide a native plant giveaway for our residents to familiarise everyone with the beauty of local native plants and promote their reintroduction into our area.
5 tips for eco-friendly living at home.
Plant a tree.
Trees play a crucial role in combating climate change, improving air quality, and providing habitats for wildlife. Planting a tree in your yard not only adds beauty to your home but also supports the environment.
Reduce, reuse, recycle.
Minimise waste by following the three Rs: Reduce: Cut down on single-use items and opt for reusable alternatives. Reuse: Find new uses for items instead of discarding them. Recycle: Properly sort and dispose of recyclables to ensure they are processed and repurposed effectively.
Conserve water.
Simple habits can make a big difference in water conservation:
- Fix leaks promptly.
- Don’t spend too long in the shower.
- Install water-efficient fixtures.
- Use recycled water for gardening and other non-potable purposes.
Support your local op shop.
Buying second-hand items from local op shops reduces demand for new products, cuts down on waste, and supports charitable organisations. It's a win-win for the community and the environment.
Use eco-friendly transportation.
Reduce your carbon footprint by:
- Walking or cycling for short trips.
- Using public transport when possible.
- Carpooling to reduce the number of vehicles on the road.
